The 9th African Agricultural Technology Exhibition will grandly open at the Nairobi International Exhibition Center from June 12th to 14th, 2023. The exhibition mainly includes four major themes: “agricultural technology”, “grain processing technology”, “agricultural irrigation” and “animal husbandry”. About 200 companies from 25 countries are expected to participate in this exhibition. A large number of visitors will gather at the 9th African Agricultural Technology Exhibition, including farmers, dealers and agents of agricultural-related industrial chains, importers businessmen, government officials of relevant agencies, etc. The 9th African Dairy, Livestock and Poultry Expo and the 4th African Grain Technology Expo are held simultaneously, including companies from the dairy, poultry, livestock and grain-related industries. As one of Africa’s largest markets, Kenya focuses on attracting trade and importers from neighboring countries. Products such as small agricultural machinery, irrigation, grain and oil machinery, pesticides and fertilizers, sprayers, small-horsepower tractors, livestock and poultry equipment are particularly popular at the exhibition.
Kenya is one of the major agricultural producers in Africa, with abundant pasture and livestock resources. However, there are problems such as backward agricultural production technology, low level of agricultural mechanization, and low land utilization. Kenya’s agriculture has developed rapidly in recent years. The local area has more than 5 million hectares of arable land. The main food crops are corn, wheat, rice, sorghum, cassava, etc., and the food is basically self-sufficient. The main cash crops are coffee, tea, sisal, pyrethrum, cotton, etc. Kenya is also the third largest exporter of fresh produce such as cabbage, onions and mangoes. However, due to the lack of local agrochemical production capacity in Kenya, almost all pesticides, fertilizers and other agrochemicals rely on imports. The market prospects are broad and worthy of further development by Chinese companies. Kenya is located in eastern Africa and is one of the countries in sub-Saharan Africa with a good economic foundation. Kenya is one of the largest trade markets in Africa, gathering importers and traders from neighboring countries. At present, the Kenyan government very much welcomes Chinese companies to invest and do business in Kenya. Kenya has a stable exchange rate and no foreign exchange controls. Profits from foreign-invested companies can be freely remitted in and out. Kenya has its superior geographical advantages, and its ports have strong trade radiation capabilities for neighboring countries. Many businessmen in Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and other countries purchase from Kenya.
Kenyan agricultural mechanization development opportunities
Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya’s national economy, with more than 70% of the country’s population engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. The arable land area is 104,800 square kilometers (approximately 18% of the land area). Due to the low level of agricultural mechanization in Kenya, 80% of the land potential has not yet been developed, which brings huge market opportunities to agricultural machinery companies. The agricultural machinery market has huge potential in the future, and agricultural machinery retail and credit businesses in rural areas need to be developed. In view of the current situation of agricultural mechanization development in Kenya, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kenya is formulating an agricultural mechanization policy to standardize the development of the agricultural machinery industry. The government will reform and support agricultural mechanization extension services; encourage the private sector to participate in extending service delivery; accelerate the construction of spare parts and service centers, promote local production and sales of agricultural machinery; promote affordable credit for farmers to purchase agricultural machinery and equipment, and provide technical personnel with Conduct training, improve infrastructure construction, and establish an agricultural mechanization demonstration center.
